Calendar
The Rock Island-Milan School District operates on a modified year-round calendar. School starts in early August, and students have 2-week breaks in the fall, winter, and spring.

Start: 8:30 a.m.
Dismissal: 3:00 p.m.
Wednesday Dismissal: 2:10 p.m.
Half Day Dismissal: 11:45 a.m.

Twenty-five percent of our students walk to school, 50 percent arrive and leave by car, and 25 percent use the bus.
Hot Breakfast/Lunch Programs
A hot breakfast and lunch are provided to Thomas Jefferson students at no cost.
Students bringing a sack lunch may purchase milk for $.40.
Before or After-Care Programs
We offer both before and after-school childcare programs here at the school through the YMCA.

As part of the district’s Building Excellence plan, Thomas Jefferson received approximately 1,050 square feet in space for a separate cafeteria addition this past year.
Parent Involvement and Opportunities
Parents interact with our school in a variety of ways. Parents have the opportunity to serve on a variety of committees throughout the school year. We have a very active Booster Club. Several LAFF (Learning and Family Fun) Nights are offered throughout the year. In addition, the principal holds several coffees each year open to all parents and stakeholders
Conflict Resolution or PBIS (Positive Behavior In Schools)
Thomas Jefferson Elementary School utilizes the Positive Behavior in Schools Program. Our discipline program revolves around our “Five Skills for Life”: Responsibility, Respect, Truth, Trust and Active Listening.
Peer Mediation
Thomas Jefferson does have a peer mediation program for students.
Safety, Parking, Crossing Guards
Students may be dropped off in front of the school or in back in designated areas. There are both adult and child crossing guards and there is onsite parking for parents.
Playground Time & Supervision
One official recess is scheduled for each student immediately following his or her lunch time. Unofficial recess times are scheduled by the individual classroom teachers. These recesses are supervised by aides, volunteers, and the principal.
